October 13 - Arrowhead Ride
Had a great afternoon with perfect weather. About 7 of us got together
for some scenic riding and a rather gluttonous lunch at Dave's malt shop
in his hometown. By the way, he and his wife chose to spend their 1st anniversary
riding with us that day. Congrats, Dave and thanks for leading us there.
See the message
board for pics.
Recent Track Day
A few had a day at the Willow Springs track recently. 2 out of 3 had
a good time and Mike's looking for more to go again on November 4. If you're
interested, let him know at mikesbluer1@aol.com. He also posted pics
on the message board.
Monthly Meetings
Last month I was asking for input on whether or not we need them and
I think only one person responded with a yes. Until further notice and
I hear enough interest for having them, there will not be monthly club
meetings. Our message board seems to serve the purpose of sharing info
with the group. For simply getting together socially, we'll have such events
every once in a great while for just that, spouses, family and friends
included.
November Offroad Event
Info yet to come.
Would anyone be interested in doing the LA-Barstow-To-Vegas dualsport
ride with me if we made that our Nov. club event? If so, it'd likely be
just one day, not both days. We're talking about 220miles+ of offroading
in a day. If I'm going to beat myself up, somebody's going down with me.
Scroll down for more info on this.
Grand Opening Party for MotoExotics
Announced at a recent Bike Night of the So.CA RAT club, this shop is
some distance from Corona (Brea), but has quite an interesting inventory
of exotic bikes to see that, as far as I know, can't be found anywhere
else in the area. Anyone interested in riding out there that afternoon
to check it out? Let me know.
Press Release info:
MotoExotics is an authorized Benelli and MZ dealer. The addition of
Cannondale enhances our product selection. These brands are non-competing
which allows us to focus on each brand individually. We can offer parts,
accessories and expertise that will enable us to provide exceptional customer
service and outstanding product selection. The Grand Opening event for
MotoExotics is on Saturday, November 9th, 2002, 9am to 5pm. There will
be demo rides, vendors, factory representatives, food, door prizes, displays
and a trials exhibition! Our celebration starts at 5pm with Live Music
and ends at10pm.
Malcolm Smith's Annual November Dualsport Ride
The Malcolm Smith Dual sport ride for Nov. 10th has been cancelled
due to forest closures for fire danger. You best check on all dual sport
and offroad rides in the San Bernardino forest before going to one.

News heard from an OC Dualies announcement about Day 1's route change:
Friday Day 1 route will have parts similiar to the 1998 route in that
it will now go to the El Mirage Dry Lake area. We will have to bypass the
San Bernardino National Forest. The route will work its way up past Glen
Helen on surface streets. Then we've got to get on the I-15 freeway for
a mile or so to go past the truck scales. (Funny how's there's no surface
streets that bypass the scales!). Turn off right away on Hwy 138 to Highway
2 and pick up the1998 course just north of the forest there. Then it's
on to El Mirage, Silver Lakes for lunch, Stoddard Valley, Lucerne Valley,
and pick up the originally planned route (same as 1999) from there to beautiful,
downtown Barstow.
Gray Davis Working To Lose Votes From Bikers
If you ride road bikes and are annoyed sitting at intersections, waiting
for lights that never trip for you, go figure this pisser:

Hearing Damage
Did you know the wind noise in even a full-face helmet at freeway speed
causes hearing damage? I didn't, until a few months ago. I read an article
in one of the biker mags about it. Here are the OSHA established maximum
safe exposure times to sound pressure levels before hearing damage occurs:
90dB SPL at 8 hours (average full coverage helmet at 40mph)
95 dB SPL at 4 hours
100 dB SPL at 2 hours
105 dB SPL at 1 hour
110 dB SPL at 30 mins
115 dB SPL at 15 minutes (average full coverage helmet at 70mph)
120 dB SPL at 0 minutes (damage occurs)
Try some cheap firearm foam earplugs. They're comfortable and you don't
even realize how much wind (and maybe pipe) noise you've been tolerating
for years until you wear plugs for a month or two and then try getting
back on the freeway at 80mph without them. It was a learning experience.
Now it seems rather unpleasant if I forget them.
