May 2002 Newsletter

Corona Riders is an onroad AND offroad enthusiast club for the Corona, CA area.
 -  Founded March, 2002  -
All newsletters are made available at: http://www.mwgraphicdesign.com/newsletters/

Our membership is now at 41 as of April 30, not including the offroaders affiliated with Ike's friends at socalmotox.com.

Thank you to those of you that came to our first meeting back on April 6. We had a turnout of about 10, which isn't bad, considering our membership was 27 at that point. Anyway, it was great getting to meet for the first time and I look forward to future club meetings. If you live nearby, please join us, and bring a friend. The next meeting will be held at Grazziono's Pizza in June. The date and other info is not yet determined.

OFFROAD WEEKEND! PLEASE RSVP using the POLL on our homepage.
Who: All offroad and dualsporting members, including family and friends!
What: Weekend desert camp at Troy Meadows (near Kennedy Meadows, in the Sequoia NF)
I've heard this is absolutely fantastic riding. I haven't been yet, myself. If you offroad, you don't want to miss it.
I was told by the ranger that it's being CLOSED for the summer on 5-28, right after our weekend.
Where: About: Paved roads; 73 units including 10 suitable for RV's up to 20'; restrooms; piped well water; no trash collection. Elev. 7,800 feet. $5 per night site fee. There IS a large overflow camp area. Reservations are not accepted. Everything is first come/serve, but we should be able to get some space. Spark arrestors and current red or green stickers are required for unplated bikes. Please bring all of your own food, beverages, camp supplies. Trout fishing there is the best, if you're into it. Sorry, no idea what the weather will be like. Plan for unpredictable weather.

Location:  53 miles northeast of Kernville via Mtn. 99 and Sherman Pass Rd. (22S05), or 34 miles west of Hwy. 395 via Nine Mile Canyon Rd. (J41).

Directions (as narrated by their ranger station): From whereever, get yourself to the 395 North. Take it until you've passed Pearsonville. 5 miles past Pearsonville, you'll come upon a Kennedy Meadows sign. Take a left there for about 22 miles. When you come to a "Y" in the road, follow the signs for Troy Meadows. When you get to the campgrounds, look for a big banner with our club logo on it hung at our camp (see logo above).

When: May 25 - 27, 2002 (I should bethere by 1pm on the 25th, posting the club banner.)
Other: PLEASE RSVP using the POLL on our homepage.

NOTE: If and only if Troy Meadows is FULL, please backtrack to Kennedy Meadows campgrounds and look for the club banner there. I've been told that space at Troy should not be a problem though, with the overflow area.

If you need further info about the camp area, here's some contacts:
Troy Ranger Station: (760) 376-3781, 8 - 4:30 M-SAT
Blackrock Information Station: (760) 376-1666
The very unhelpful, but official web site: http://www.r5.fs.fed.us/sequoia/

If you know this area and would like to volunteer as a trail guide, let me know at the camp.
Also, if you have better directional info than is posted here, or if you find my directions are incorrect and I'm leading a flock into the abyss of confusion, please let me know. or POST it on the message board.

Julian Ride - April 27
Thanks Ken, for salvaging our Julian ride! We rode until 22 miles short of Julian, facing an ominous dark rain cloud. We ended up heading for Fallbrook (after lunch at The Hideout) and found great twisties through some very scenic riding. Ken, his brother Ron, Jamie and his wife, Vane and myself had a great ride.

May Meeting
No club meeting this month. The next meeting will be in June, after the Troy Meadows weekend.

Planning Future Events
As you might have already noticed, we have a general EVENTS page that is freely visible to all visitors. Share whatever event you'd like by posting it yourself. Everyone is free to post any events, rides, etc on this page. If you'd like to start a ride or camp specifically with other group members, please POST it in our own MESSAGE BOARD (hosted by Yahoo Groups). Members will need to subscribe to the message board first to post AND receive such posts. Try it out. It can be quite useful for quickly sharing info with everyone. It's much more efficient than digging out individual emails from the member list. Right now, there's only 2 subscribed. Please help change that.

Helping Out
Anyone interested in helping out with the club in some capacity? Please let me know. I could use help. We need volunteers to completely plan and organize roadbike, offroad/motocross & dualsporting events as well as help promote the club. Other opportunities to help will soon come, but those aren't so important yet.
Club flyers (PDF file) can be downloaded HERE.

Publicity
You might notice, when surfing the net, that links have been provided to Corona Riders by many other sites (2-3 dozen) and are starting to spread in the MC community. Anyone wanting to help spread the word are welcome to. Just make sure that when you do, you state the following:
Name: Corona Riders
Site: www.coronariders.com
Type: an onroad and offroad motorcycling club for the Corona, CA area.
Logo link: http://www.mwgraphicdesign.com/img/CRlogoW144x61p.gif

Our web site will soon be revamped with the new logo and better navigational design!

What We're About
This club is about getting local onroad and offroad riders together for short or long joyrides, weekend desert camps, that sort of thing. If you're looking for a daredevil / speed-demon / jump contest / intoxicated / ticket-escaping bunch, you're really looking in the wrong place. Sorry, I just don't want that element in this club.

Talk to you soon,
Morgan Williams
