June Meeting & Dualsport
Ride
We just had our June meeting at Grazianos Pizza
and thanks to those that came. Hopefully you weren't as ignorant about
sunscreen as I was, sitting on an open patio.
Afterward, a few of us had a great afternoon of
dualsporting through the Cleveland Forest. Well, one had some unplanned
cosmetic adjustments to his new XR and I ran out of gas on the highway
but still, we had great weather and the entire ridge to ourselves. Being
that the Cleveland NF is our backyard, we'll certainly have more rides
if you dualsporters want to join us.
On the topic of dualsports, here's a great site
my wife found for 4-stroke fans:
http://www.thumpertalk.com
Be sure and read the "You know your riding sucks
when..." forum. Great stories of humility.
July Meeting (day/time/location
yet to be announced)
As mentioned at the meeting, we'll be having a rep from the AMA come
and talk to us at either the June or August meeting about the benefits
of becoming an AMA-chartered or AMA-social club. Even if you don't intend
to show for meetings, please try to make it. Soon after, we'll make a group
decision on whether to join and it's best to be educated on why we'd do
so before giving your input.
Along that same thought, unforeseen costs in having a club forces the
issue of monthly club dues. How much those dues will be shall be decided
about the same time, being that AMA-affiliation isn't free.
Offroad Weekend at Troy Meadows Cancelled
As you all know, this event was cancelled due to lack of interest,
which could've been for many possible reasons, but we'll have a poll posted
soon to find out specifically what type riding is of most interest. Hopefully
this will avoid having to cancel events again in the future.
Rider Training
My wife just took the Colton-location class from MSF's dirtbikeschool
and had a great time, now wanting an XR for herself. I thought I'd share
this because, if you have a spouse or friend you're trying to introduce
riding to, this is a great start. I've seen a number of people (my coworkers)
that weren't even interested, take the class and become instant moto-fans.
My wife's quote:
"The facilities were first class. They lent us all the latest equipment/gear
and we used their late-model bikes. They covered everything from downshifting
to environmental concerns. I highly recommend it to all beginning riders,
kids included, as young as 5. Somehow, the instructor had the patience
of a saint."

Our web site will
soon be revamped with the new logo and better navigational design!
Yes, I know, I've said it for a couple months.
It may be another two before I actually have the time to do it.
Any webmasters want to help me on this, when
the time comes?
Prime-xample.com
Thanks to Dave Conklin, I've been informed about, and in contact with,
Ontario-based sportbike club, www.prime-xample.com. We'll probably have
upcoming rides pooled together with them, since we're based so close together.
Their rep, Gil, told me they'll be having a couple's ride on an upcoming
Sunday morning this month. More info to come when I have it...
Bass Lake Dualsport Weekend
The The Orange County Dualies (http://www.ocdualies.com)
have their 5th annual weekend at Bass Lake coming up.
I hear it's fantastic riding.
See http://www.dualies.com/html/bass_lake02.html
for more info.
Track day @ CAspeedway?
Back at the April 6 Superbike Championships, I had met with a rep of
the track about a group of us coming for a day of all-out riding (and some
coaching) on their track. Sometime this fall (after the heatwaves), we'll
get something together on it for a group rate.
Public Land for Public Use Protest Rally - July 11,
2002
If you're able to get the time off work for this, help our OHV access
rights.
I can't make it myself, but hopefully somebody from the club can.

Planning Future Events
As you might have already noticed, we have a
general EVENTS
page that is freely visible to all visitors. Share whatever event
you'd like by posting
it yourself. Everyone is free to post any events, rides, etc on this
page. If you'd like to start a ride or camp specifically with other group
members, please
POST
it in our own MESSAGE BOARD (hosted by Yahoo Groups).
Members will need to subscribe
to the message board first to post AND receive such posts. Try it out.
It can be quite useful for quickly sharing info with everyone. It's much
more efficient than digging out individual emails from the member list.
Publicity
You might notice, when surfing the net, that
links have been provided to Corona Riders by many other sites and are spreading
in the online motorcycle community. Anyone wanting to help spread the word
are welcome to. Just make sure that when you do, you state the following:
Name: Corona Riders
Site: www.coronariders.com
Type: an onroad and offroad motorcycling
club for the Corona, CA area.
Logo link: http://www.mwgraphicdesign.com/img/CRlogoW144x61p.gif
Also, Club flyers (PDF file) can be downloaded
HERE.
You'll need to cut your printouts in half (two
flyers on a page).
What We're About
This club is about getting local onroad and offroad riders together
for short or long joyrides, weekend desert camps, that sort of thing. If
you're looking for a daredevil / speed-demon / intoxicated / ticket-escaping
bunch, you're really looking in the wrong place. Sorry, I just don't want
that element in this club.
Regards,
