Corona Riders (club logo is pending)
April 2002 Newsletter - please feel free to forward

Corona Riders is an onroad AND offroad enthusiast club for the Corona, CA area.
All newsletters are made available at http://www.mwgraphicdesign.com/newsletters/

Note: Although a broad email was sent out recently on March 19, you will receive these newsletters no more often than monthly from now on. Future newsletters will either be monthly or bi-monthly. If you have any suggestions on improving these newsletters or the content of the site, let me know.

First, I'd like to welcome all of you who have joined us in just the last couple weeks. Our membership is at 27 as of March 30, and is growing at several or more per week!

It's time we got together to not only meet one another, but also to see just what type of riders we've got. As you all know, this club was formed to appeal to all types of riders, including onroad, offroad and dualsport. There seems to be a fair amount that ride multiple types of bikes, so we plan to focus on having rides and events both on and off the asphalt. For some reason, I don't think we've attracted any Harley riders yet. I guess the Harley folks just want to hang with other Harleys. Oh well, I tried.

First Meeting!PLEASE RSVP using the POLL on our homepage.

Who: All members, including any family or interested friends you'd like to bring along.
What: BBQ lunch in my backyard. Yes, it's free, THIS time. With the rate we're growing, it won't stay that way.
(Future meetings will likely be held elsewhere to accomodate more members.)
Where: (address no longer displayed)
When: Saturday, April 6, 2002, 11pm - 2pm
Ride?: If you've got a streetbike, ride here!  Although there will be no organized group rides this day, you may want to hook up with others for a ride afterwards.  Also, the Superbike Championships (www.californiaspeedway.com) will be going on just 30 mins from here, if you'd like to leave in time to catch some of it.

What We're About
My motivation for starting this club began simply as a desire to help riders in the neighborhood meet other riders. With just some free links posted around the internet, some flyers handed-out and some left at dealerships, it became apparent that interest in the club was growing rapidly. Too many people said the same thing: "Yeah, I ride, but I don't know anyone around here," which was my own thought a month ago.

This club is simply about getting other riders together for short or long onroad & offroad joyrides, weekend desert camps, that sort of thing. If you're looking for a daredevil / speed-demon / jump contest / intoxicated / ticket-escaping bunch, you're really looking in the wrong place. Matter of fact, if I feel your riding habits are in any way endangering other members, asking for serious tickets or arrests, or doing a disservice to the image of our club and it's law-abiding motorcyclists, I'll be asking you to leave. No offense, I actually work in advertising and design of psycho-daredevil motorcycle videos. I just don't want that element in this club.

Along that same thought, there's the possibility of becoming an AMA-chartered club. More info on that to come.

As of today, the domain www.coronariders.com has been reserved. The domain was reserved for club identity and it's just plain easier to remember. Please make all club referrals to www.coronariders.com.

Planning Future Events
As you might have already noticed, we have a general EVENTS page that is freely visible to all visitors. Share whatever event you'd like by posting it yourself. Everyone is free to post any events, rides, etc on this page. If you'd like to start a ride or camp specifically with other group members, please POST it in our own MESSAGE BOARD (hosted by Yahoo Groups). Members will need to subscribe to the message board first to post AND receive such posts. Try it out. It can be quite useful for quickly sharing info with everyone. It's much more efficient than digging out individual emails from the member list. Right now, there's only 2 subscribed. Please help change that.

Helping Out
Anyone interested in helping out with the club in some capacity? Please express your interest AT the club meeting. I'll soon be needing help. I can't do this alone. I plan to primarily handle these newsletters and site design/maintenance. Of course, I will put some rides together myself, but not many. See above in "Planning Future Events". We'll need volunteers to plan and organize roadbike, offroad/motocross & dualsporting events as well as help promote the club and possibly help with organized charities sometime in the future. As I said, please express any interest at the meeting. We'll have to do this democratically somehow.

You can help spread the word about the club by printing out some flyers for distribution in the area. The PDF can be downloaded HERE.

Publicity
New member Ike Urbanik of http://www.socalmotox.com/ and http://www.MotocrossRadio.com will be joining us at our first meeting and possibly conducting a radio interview about the club. Ike's focus is entirely towards offroading and I welcome his willingness not only to help get the word out, but to become involved with our offroading membership.

You might notice, when surfing the net, that links have been provided to Corona Riders by many other sites (2-3 dozen) and are starting to spread in the MC community. I've focused more on this than anything else and would appreciate anyone doing the same to help spread the word. Just make sure that when you do it, you state the following:
Name: Corona Riders
Site: www.coronariders.com
Type: all-type motorcycle enthusiast club for the Corona, CA area.
