Hi Everyone
First note: Is anyone an experienced webmaster that is familiar with PHP-based message boards? If so, would you help me out in getting such a message board established for the club? Our Yahoo message board is sadly underused and I've noticed that most club sites now use highly interactive PHP-type boards and get a great deal of use out of them. Setting one up is just new to me. Let me know.
DON'T FORGET! We have a group offroad camp coming up May 2-4. Bring the family and friends and come join us if you can. Marisa Ryan and her family will be out there on Friday with the club banner. More info below.

my own stupidity, having forgotten sun block, we had a good time race-watching
from multiple points around the track. Some photos to share HERE.

August - TRACK DAY! (streetbikes)
For most of you (including myself), a day at a track is unventured
territory. Well, lets get together for a club day of letting loose at Willow
Springs. I know there's a lot of you with dust-collecting crotch rockets,
so take the opportunity to fix that. Before booking reservations, I'm waiting
to hear back from the organizer on how we can get a group price break from
the standard $135pp/day rate, which is already the lowest of any So. CA
track day organizers.
More info about Track Daz at: http://www.trackdaz.com
Read up on the requirements of participating at: http://trackdaz.com/requirements.htm
More info to come soon...
Motorcycling
One of our riders, Leanne Ledgerwood (Vane's wife), sent me this note
last month:
| 1) Hi, My husband and I took a ride yesterday through
Ortega Hwy and there was a bike down. From the looks of it, he somehow
lost control of the bike and hit the side of the mountain. His bike
was pretty messed up and he was laying flat on his back. The Fire crew
had not arrived yet to assist, but there were many other bike riders helping
direct traffic and helping the guy in any way they could. Do you
know anyone that might have more information on this accident. Like is
the guy ok? I have not seen anything in the papers yet. It happened
around noon. Thanks Leanne
2) It was nice to see everyone helping out. There must of been 10 people helping out with everything. I've noticed that with bike riders. We always look out for one another. We always wave at each other on the road. You don't see cars waving at each other. If you read of anything on this, let me know. Thanks Leanne |
I didn't hear or read anything about that unfortunate incident, but it did inspire something.
I think some people may not see all that there really is going on in being a motorcyclist. It's not just simply the fact that we enjoy riding on two wheels. For one, there's a strong socialization, a camaraderie, that just comes with it. Leanne's right... you don't see car drivers waiving at one another. Most drivers see their cars as a gas-sucking tool to get from point A to point B ...for the most part, just a necessary evil. I think people that want to ride motorcycles intuitively see that "transportation" not only sounds boring, it is boring, and that motorcycles offer a lot more. Yes, they're inherintantly more risky, but they're more fun, use less gas, keep you more alert and energized than car driving, they get around a hell of a lot faster with more privileges than cars and they provide a social good. Most all motorcyclists have a friendly, brotherhood respect for one another that car drivers, as a community, lack. Besides simply waving out of friendliness, bikers want to share in their experiences, their ride plans and in what they "trick" on their bikes because it's simply a fun common ground.
Yes, that may all seem bluntly obvious, but maybe not to some. By the way, Andy Goldfine, a recent friend that I've made, took the initiative years ago to found an organization devoted to the cause of proliferating bikes for those and more reasons. Take a moment to check out http://www.ridetowork.org and contribute something to their cause. As I see it, they're mission is as important as having AMA reps to fight legal battles to retain our rights to ride. If you own a roadbike and don't use it daily, please make a note to at least ride it to work on July 16 (Ride To Work day) and help show the community how many of us there are. Even better, forward this message to other riders you may know, anywhere.
